Rookie Blue has been renewed for a fourth season by its broadcasting partners.

The police procedural drama, which focuses on five newcomers to the police force, counts former Heroes actress Missy Peregrym, Charlotte Sullivan (The Kennedys) and Gregory Smith (The Patriot, Everwood) among its cast.

Rookie Blue, which is produced by Shaw Media, Thump Inc and Canwest, will air in simulcast once again on ABC in the US and on the Global Television Network in Canada.

“Rookie Blue‘s fourth season renewal in simulcast is unprecedented territory for any Canadian original series, and we’re excited to lead the way,” Shaw Media executive Barbara Williams said in a statement.

“From its very first episode, we had no doubt that this show would resonate with viewers and today’s announcement proves it remains a dominant force in our programme schedule.”

The third season of Rookie Blue is currently airing on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC in the US.

Production on the show’s fourth season will officially get underway in Toronto on Monday, August 20.
